1. Explain how and why you would provide good leadership for your ward.
I’m the only candidate in this race that has the instant “know-how” and the vision along with discernment to help us (Jackson) get to the next level.
2. What are your infrastructure priorities, and how would you pay for infrastructure repairs?
Obviously, our streets and drainage problems are number one. I will seek state and federal assistance along with various local tax initiatives to address these big-ticket items.
3. What measures would your propose/support for combating crime in the City?
Find the best police chief money can buy, and push for more crime prevention programs aimed at our young folks, and get the schools and churches more involved in this community problem.
4. How would you handle the police chief position? Would you support returning to a full-time chief? Why or why not?
I think the citizen of Jackson deserve a full-time chief, but I would study other options.
5. What are your economic development priorities for the City?
Help small businesses first. . .they are the foundation of any local economy.
6. How would you alter the employee pay/benefit structure?
I would look at upgrading overall employee benefits
7. How would you improve transparency in government?
I’m an advocate of open government period!
8. There are various proposals that would ostensibly help with flood control on the Pearl, and perhaps increase development and/or green space for the City. What program would you support and why?
I’m open to support any meaningful dialog on these matters.
9. What needs to happen to improve the relationship between City Council and the Mayoral administration?
We need to respect each other’s role and communicate more openly with each other, and remember that we must always put the “peoples’” business first!
10. What role should the City play to help the youth o Jackson? Please provide specific plans.
We need to do all we can to improve the overall quality of life for our youth in the City. They are our future leaders.
We need to:
a. Create programs designed to improving our drop-out rate;
b. Provide more part-time jobs
c. Provide more recreational and social outlets (i.e., movies, skating rinks, community centers, etc)
d. Provide programs to deter at-risk youngsters from entering into the criminal justice system.
11. How would you bring new funds into the City of Jackson’s coffers?
Look at some type gaming and/or entertainment initiatives.
12. Do you support making Capitol Street two-way?
It could increase business traffic. . .I am willing to asset the possibility.
13. What can you do/support to make the City more attractive to residents?
Run the City like a business. . .eliminate all the distractions.
14. What can you do/support to make the City more attractive to businesses?
Be pro-business!
15. What is something fun/interesting about you that few people know?
Love outdoors grilling. . . .great Bar-B-Que cook and. . . did you know?
First Black DJ on a Top 40 (easy listening) Radio Station (WRBC/WJMI) in 1970!
