Chris Alford

Chris Alford is a creative versatile guitarist and composer that has performed in Mississippi juke joints as well as concert halls around the country. Equally adept at playing Bebop, Rock, Fusion, Pop, or Gospel, his unique guitar voice has no stylistic bounds.  Alford earned music degrees from Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois and Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. There he had the opportunity to study and, or perform with Kirk Whalum, Mike Smith, Henry Johnson, Regi Wooten, Lew Soloff, Jeff Coffin (Flecktones), and Chester Thompson (Weather Report, Frank Zappa). Alford has had the opportunity to perform with legends of jazz and popular music including: Donnie (Motown Records) 2Face (MTV award winner) John McLean, Leslie Hunt (American Idol finalist), Ezra Brown, Cassandra Wilson, Skeets McWilliams, Dr. London Branch, Alvin Fielder and many more. He also is a band member of national recording jazz artist Rhonda Richmond. In this band he had the opportunity to share the stage with legendary jazz organist Jimmy Smith, The Yellow Jackets, Medeski Martin and Wood, and jazz diva Cassandra Wilson, whom produced the bands debut album.  Recent performances include Atlanta Jazz Festival, Snowbird Jazz Festival, The Unbroken Circle, an unique historical performance concert featuring Cassandra Wilson, Herlin Riley, and Reginald Veal.  Currently Alford is based out of his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi where he is active in a flourishing music scene. In Jackson he is a member of ColorSound Collective, Rhonda Richmond Band, Nekisopaya, Scott Albert Johnson Band, The Mississippi Improv Alliance, Lakeshore Methodist Church Praise Band, Ezra Brown Quartet, and also freelances throughout the region.  He fulfills his passion for music education by teaching various music classes and lessons in the community.
