Cool Als
There is no doubt about it: Al Stamps makes a mean veggie burger. It’s mean because you would hardly know that it’s not a “real” burger. It’s got all the yummy toppings (no sprouts) piled on, and I swear it’s greasy. In a good way. It’s so good—and so meatless—than it won a “National Golden Bun Award,” from P.E.T.A. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Then, to top it off, this past year, Cool Al’s (formerly the Stamps Superburger on McWillie), added Jamaican and West African veggie burgers, using a variety of unexpected spices to offer something a little bit different. Speaking of different, be sure to try the High Noon burger next time you’re there. It’s bright red—not because it’s “rare,” but because it’s made out of beets! But don’t let that scare you away: It tastes like a big juicy burger, and it’s good for you.
