Day/Date: Election Day 2008 is Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Hours: Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. If you are in line the polling place at 7 p.m., you must be allowed to vote. If possible, go during off hours to avoid the crowds: 10 to 11:30 a.m., and between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Location: Your voting precinct is printed on your voter registration card. If you don’t have your card, and you’re not certain where to go to cast your ballot, log on to Vote 411 Poll finder and enter your address. If that doesn’t work, call 866-OUR-VOTE, contact the Mississippi secretary of state’s office at 601-576-2550 or your county’s circuit clerk (in the city of Jackson, call 601-968-1035; in Hinds County, 601-968-6628; in Madison County, 601-859-4365; in Rankin County, 601-825-1466) or voting registrar. Registrar information can be found on the Mississippi Secretary of State Web site. If you know your precinct number, go here for a precinct list by county.

IMPORTANT: Do not leave the polls without voting—even if you’re told it may not count. You have the right to vote using a provisional or affidavit ballot, and you have the right to know whether your vote was counted. And if not, ask why. Ask a poll worker for a phone number to call to check your ballot status.
