Don Jacobs
Don Jacobs is probably best know for his emphasis on realism and his penchant for painting on a large scale. A native Mississippian, he grew up for the most part in Brookhaven, but left home at 19 for a summer job in Europe, which led him to pursue a degree in Graphic Design through Frankfurt, Germany’s prestigious art academy, Kunstschule Westend für Grafik Und Design. Jacobs spent the better part of a decade soaking up the influences of European culture before returning home to Mississippi in 1980 as a Graphic Artist and Designer. He spent nearly nine years as art director at local CBS affiliate WJTV-12 before changing gears in 1995 to pursue an interest in Faux Finishing and painting. One of Mississippi’s premiere muralists, he’s renowned for his creative approach and realistic style. Some of his more prominent mural work can be seen locally at the Jackson Country Club, the First Baptist Church nursery (downtown Jackson), and at the Mississippi Governor’s mansion. He’s been active with the St. Andrews Designer Show House over the
years, has been written up in MISSISSIPPI Magazine and was recently the focus of a feature on MS Public Broadcasting’s “MISSISSIPPI ROADS”, and is soon to be featured on MS Public Broadcasting’s “SOUTHERN EXPRESSIONS”. For more information, visit his web site at www.donjacobs.net.
