Free Expression Exposition

The Free Expression Exposition Music and Arts Festival is a music and arts festival that began as Jason Wilson’s “Senior Project” for his last year at Florence High School.

The first of its kind took place on February 24th, 2007 at Florence’s local Hemphill Park on Highway 469. Despite horrible weather conditions such as 40mph wind and threatening thunderstorms the festival persevered to become a day of relaxed creative expression. The local stage was home to The Weeks, Scott Albert Johnson, Bob Marston, The Electric Mudd, Andrew Bryant, Ttoccs Rekarp, Questions in Dialect, and a local Florence group called The Reggae Tribute to the Notebook Soundtrack.

Despite the lack of a budget, a $2 admission price, and horrible weather conditions, the festival managed to bring in over $700. Proceeds of over $300 were donated to the Mississippi Arts Commission.

Another festival is being organized for June 23rd, 2007 with proceeds going to the Jackson Art Collective. Wilson hopes that the festival will continue to grow and become an annual or bi-annual event that will attract many locals together for a day of creative expression.
