Gustav - Blood Donors Needed
URGENT NEED FOR BLOOD ALONG GULF COAST
JACKSON, Miss. — Due to Hurricane Gustav’s impact on the entire Gulf Coast region, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) needs blood donors to come out and support its community.
“The need for blood increases during times such as these,” Tony Bahou, Manager of Communications and Public Relations, says. “We’re asking you to come out in spite of the inclement weather and donate blood.”
Mississippi Blood Services supplies blood and blood products to hospitals across the state of Mississippi including Biloxi Regional Hospital. The storm forced the closings of MBS drawing stations across the state, sharply curtailing our ability to draw blood. Hospitals and blood centers on the entire gulf coast were affected by the storm; the need for blood is urgent.
“MBS encourages the public to donate blood in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav to meet the need of patients not only in the affected areas but the entire state,” Bahou said.
