Platform:
1. Explain how and why you would provide good leadership for your ward.
I will provide good leadership by attending all council meetings, being accessible to ALL constituents, attending various community meetings, informing the citizens of critical issues coming before the council and, staying in constant communication with the voters I serve. Why, because the people of Ward 3 have not had effective representation, WE deserve better than what we’ve been getting. The ward has been in a constant state of regression since 1997, and it is time for a change.
2. What are your infrastructure priorities, and how would you pay for infrastructure repairs?
Pave the streets, clear and clean vacant lots, tear down dilapidated structures, repair drains, gutters, and water mains. We would first look at the city budget, then talk with county supervisors for funding help, next we would solicit state and federal assistance.
3. What measu
res would you propose/support for combating crime in the city? First is to appoint the appropriate chief and assist that individual with their plan for combating crime and advocating community policing as the first phase of crime prevention.
4. How would you handle the police chief position? Would you support returning to a full-time chief? Why or why not?
After the mayor’s appointment, I believe the council should review the person’s qualifications, background, and vision for the city and their department. If all goes well, confirm the individual and move forward with city business. I definitely believe the Chief of J.P.D has to be full-time.
5. What are your economic-development priorities for the city?
Cleaning the city to be as attractive as possible to entice new enterprises to the city, also improving infrastructure to secure existing entities to stay.
6. How would you alter the employee pay/benefit structure?
I will need more information to make a response.
7. How would you improve transparency in government?
Communication, communication, communication.
8. There are various proposals that would ostensibly help with flood control on the Pearl, and perhaps increase development and/or green space for the city. What program would you support and why?
I need more information to make a definite decision, but the Twin Lakes Project looks promising.
9. What needs to happen to improve the relationship between City Council and the mayoral administration?
Obviously, we need some new personnel, and these people need to be optimistic, enthusiastic, open-minded and compromising (Like Myself), focusing on moving the city forward, promoting a positive image, unified, and embracing a character of self-less service.
10. What role should the city play to help the youth of Jackson? Please provide your specific plans.
The city should be a resource for the parents’ and the school system, ready to assist with activities, guidance, and employment opportunities. My plan would be to work collaboratively with the school system to create a year-round comprehensive program to aid youth with academic, social, and economic hardships.
11. How would you bring new funds into the city of Jackson’s coffers?
Toll roads are not out of the question, cracking down on fines and fees owed and going after land owners of deficient structures and property.
12. Do you support making Capitol Street two-way?
No and why would we do that?
13. What can you do/support to make the city more attractive to residents?
Clean up the city and bring a professional and cohesive demeanor to the council.
14. What can you do/support to make the city more attractive to businesses?
Clean up the city and bring a professional and cohesive demeanor to the council.
15. What is something fun/interesting about you that few people know ?
My eight year old daughter loves to cook and wants to be a Chef, so we make dishes of recipes that we see on Food Network. We went to see Paula Deen when she was here in Jackson and have been using her recipes and making some of our own.
