As a relatively new employee at Healthway Nutrition, I learned very quickly that this store is different from any other business that I have worked for in the past. The owner, Taylor Ransone, once made a statement that caught me by surprise.
He stated, “We are not here just to make money. We are here to
help people figure out what they need to do to be healthy.”
After working here for more than a year, I have to say that he is right. One of the first things that we ask a customer whocomes in with a problem is about his or her diet: “What do you eat?
Most of the time, we find that they are eating or drinking a lot of sugar (all kinds) and are not eating basic foods like fruits and vegetables. Once we talk to them about how to eathealthily and to add some sort of exercise to their daily routine, we offer pertinent literature and then suggestions of supplements that may support their bodies, depending on the problems that they are having.
We educate customers to understand that prevention and personal responsibility need to be an important part of their life to keep healthy.
We offer a little bit of everything that you would find in a health food store. We have organic and natural foods, gluten-free and wheat-free foods, vegetarian foods, vitamins, minerals, herbs, homeopathic medicines, personal care items, cleaning supplies, and diet, sports, and body building products.
Another thing that I learned about Healthway after changing from a customer to an employee, is that we do not price a lot of our products at suggested retail.
Instead, we aim to sell our products at affordable prices (probably the best in Jackson overall). In addition to that, we offer monthly sales and a free rebate program to our customers that gives them a 5% rebate check if they purchase more than $250 during the year. That is something that our
customers look forward to.
