JFP Description

Rainbow Whole Foods Co-op is becoming my favorite place to buy produce. The selection is outstanding, and everything is super fresh and organic to boot, which means I won’t find healthier fruits and veggies anywhere in the area. Mississippi growers provide it all, and Rainbow will even juice my produce purchases for a measly extra buck.

Chef Elli Williams uses all those wonderful, natural ingredients at the vegetarian/vegan High Noon Café. I have to admit that I’m not a vegetarian, but I promise you, fellow carnivores, you won’t miss the meat. Soup and entrée lunch specials change daily, with options like Sweet & Spicy Green Lentil soup, Three Bean Mexican Casserole and Red Pepper Spinach Quiche. There are veggie burgers and a simple, delicious dish of Beans over Brown Rice.

High Noon’s appetizers, the Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Plate and the Fiesta Quesadilla can be meals in and of themselves. Don’t forget the salads and homemade dressings.

If you’re still hungry after lunch, dig into a piece of High Noon’s famous vegan Carrot Cake, or take a look at the chalk board for the daily dessert offerings. The last time I visited, they were Banana Cheesecake and Chocolate Cake.

All of this lusciousness comes without a hint of meat, MSG, trans-fats, hydrogenated oils or genetically modified products, wellness fans. Elli and her staff use only natural and certified organic foods, and they make the dishes from scratch, seven days a week.
