Before the guys from the Jackson Free Press had to beat me out with a stick, I decided to quit my life as the “always-intern” after one year at the JFP in January.
In that semester, I focused on my other responsibilities at Hinds Community College in Raymond, such as working as an Phi Theta Kappa Vice-President, an editor for the Hinds Eagle Campus Newspaper or my presidentship of the International Student’s Club.
I received my Associates’s Degree in May with Most Distinguished Honors and a 4.0 overall grade point average which ought to proof that stubborn determination is really all one needs to succeed in college.
I kept busy over the summer penetrating the mail-man about my response letters from the colleges I wanted to finish my degree at.
Probably due to the fact that I wrote all of my application essays in the non-fiction narrative form the JFP taught me to know by heart, I got accepted into Syracuse University, Emerson College in Boston and Amherst College. However, I decided to stay true to Jackson and attend Millsaps College because of the generous full-tuition and room scholarships they offered me. At Millsaps, I will most likely have a double major in Journalism and Spanish as well as a Political Science minor.
And in case you were wondering- I did go back home to Germany for two months and ate all the Schnitzel and fries with mayonaise anyone can bear!
