Leftover

Lying on the outskirts of Eastover, one of northeast Jackson’s original affluent neighborhoods for wealthy doctors, lawyers, and city leaders, Leftover is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the smaller surrounding middle class homes built around mid-1900’s. Most of the homes of Leftover feature classic cottage and ranch style architecture and are nestled among some of the city’s oldest and grandest hardwood trees.

Early in the 2000’s, the neighborhood saw a rebirth among professionals, young families, artists, and medical students due to it’s convenient location, reasonably priced homes, and charming, well shaded streets. This rebirth proved to be a unique twist of fate for the neighborhood. As people returned to the area, many of the original smaller middle classic homes were either renovated and enlarged or completely removed to make room for larger, more stately homes for it’s newest residents; blurring the line between Eastover and Leftover.

So, although the origin of the term may have once been intended as a disrespectful slight by the upper class Eastover residents toward their lower class neighbors, the term “Leftover” is now lovingly embraced by it’s residents which are now the very same doctors, lawyers, and city leaders that once called Eastover home.

Geographically, Leftover is commonly referred to as the Jackson neighborhood set east of Ridgewood Rd. that runs north of Eastover Dr. and south of E. Northside Dr.
