Mississippi Free Press
The Mississippi Free Press was a Civil Rights Movement newspaper started and published by a multiracial group in the 1960s, including RLT Smith, [Hazel Brannon Smith]], Medgar Evers, and others. It was a more progressive alternative to the conservative Jackson Advocate, which then as now was segregationist in nature. The paper’s office was on Farish Street. The Jackson Free Press is named in honor of the MFP.
