Mississippi NAACP
Mission: The Mississippi NAACP was chartered in 1918 in Vicksburg, MS. Since that time, the MS NAACP has worked on all of the major civil rights battles in Mississippi and the South. The current president of the MS NAACP is Derrick Johnson. The organization is currently working on a number of projects including voting rights and Hurricane Katrina relief. The organization is a leader in the statewide coalition to reform the juvinile justice system in the state of Mississippi. MS’s NAACP continues to fight for the civil liberties of all people as well as hold governmental (and non governmental) agencies responsible when they violate someone’s rights. The organization has a membership of 11,000 people and is always campaigning to increase that number.
