To vote in the 2008 presidential elections, you must register in person by Oct. 3, or by Oct. 4 if your county clerk’s office is open on Saturday (not all are). Mail-in applications must be postmarked by Oct. 5, but because post offices are not open on Sunday, get your application in by Oct. 3 to be safe.
In any election, you must register at least 30 days prior to the election whether you are registering by mail or in person.
Register with your county Circuit Clerk. For Hinds County, the clerk’s office is located at the county court house (407 East Pascagoula St. Jackson, MS 39205). For the City of Jackson, you can also register with the Municipal Clerk located at city hall (255 E Pascagoula St. Jackson, MS, 39201).
To register, you will need a driver’s license, social security number, or a copy of a current and valid photo identification, utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document showing your name and address.
For a Voter Registration Application, go to the Mississippi Secretary of State web site to download it, call the Hinds Circuit Clerk at 601-968-6628 or visit your courthouse. To register by mail, send your application to your county clerk’s office, postmarked no later than October 5, 2008. (A list of registrar addresses and phones by county is available at the link above).
