Steven Wells Hicks
Steven Wells Hicks is a Jackson-based author who turned to writing books, essays and articles after a 30-year career with advertising agencies and as a political consultant.
Born in Omaha, and educated at Phillips Exeter Academy (Exeter, NH) and Coe College (Cedar Rapids, IA), he moved to Jackson in 1974. In addition to his advertising work, Hicks was the original restaurant critic for Jackson magazine and the film reviewer for WAPT-TV in the 1970s.
He is the author of three novels:
The Gleaner—a biracial love story set in Port Jefferson, Mississippi, in which a freshly widowed folklorist finds himself falling in love with a cook before an acceptable period of mourning has passed
The Fall of Adam—a romantic comedy about a New York advertising man trying to win the state of Mississippi’s advertising account while trying to figure out whether he’s in love with an oversexed copywriter or an unconventional, female preacher
Horizontal Adjustment—a politically incorrect satire about television news on the Florida Panhandle and the lengths to which some women are willing to go in order to become an anchorwoman
His website is www.stevenwellshicks.com, and he can be contacted at mail@stevenwellshicks.com.
He also maintains a blog, mostly about New Orleans dining, at hickswrites.blogspot.com
