Tote-Sums
Tote-Sums were Jackson area convenience stores. They had tall, vertically-oriented signs out front that had a memorable blink pattern, lighting up the name one letter at a time, and then blinking the name all at once:
T-O-T-E S-U-M..... TOTE-SUM
The Tote-Sum near my childhood home in Northeast Jackson was in the location where a Subway sandwich shop is today, at 6069 Old Canton Road. It was a great place to play a video game like Asteroids, eat a lot of candy, and chase it all down with a cherry Slurpee.
Within bike riding distance of that Tote-Sum was their primary competitor in the area - STOP N GO.
