Vicksburg

A great day-trip is to drive to Vicksburg (about 45 minutes away). The Attic Gallery is an amazing place to look for local art or just browse around. Bring a bike and ride around the Civil War battlefield.

Just north of the Vicksburg on Highway 1 if you look to the left you will see a building that appears to be constructed of brightly colored red, white, pink and yellow legos with bible verses hand-painted on signs. This is the home of the Reverend H.D. Dennis and his wife. Feel free to pull over and pay them a visit. The inside of the building is even more interestingly adorned than the exterior, but the real attraction is the good conversation that you will enjoy with the Reverend and his wife, Margaret. Unfortunately, the only time I visited this shrine the Reverend was in bed, hoarse from talking the ears off of a couple of travelers from the Netherlands the day before. However, Margaret kept me and my friends occupied with stories for the better part of an hour. This stop alone is worth the trip.
