Admittedly, Jackson is no Paris or Milan when it comes to fashion. Yet, more hipsters crop up in the city every year, it seems. And if you want to enjoy chic people-watching, or you want to try out a new quirky outfit, the following places/events bring out the coolest outfits:
1. Roller derby — Anything these chicks do is cool. Anything they wear is cool.
2. JFP Chick Ball — With a name like that, need we say more? It’s not about formal, folks.
3. Fondren ArtMix — Get creative for this monthly art walk; dress like an artist.
4. Orange Peel — Some of the funkiest outfits are on the people shopping here.
5. JFP Best of Jackson party — Every January, this party transforms Jacktown into Soho. Except, um, the people are friendly.
6. The Greater Jackson Arts Council‘s Storytellers Ball, every August. You can dress in theme (this year, The Great Gatsby), or you can just get really gussied up, the more creative the better.
7. For any event at Seven Studios in the Millsaps Arts District.
8. To head out to music and other events at Swell-o-phonic in Fondren. Multiple hair colors welcome.
9. Elixir during cocktail hour. Julep is a good runner-up. Hamps on Wednesday night. The Upper Level, Fire, Birdland and Freelons, depending on the entertainment.
